Faculty Mentor Program (FMP) Student Application

Application for Winter/Spring 2027

The Faculty Mentor Program (FMP) is an academic-year program that offers participating students the opportunity to get 99 or 199 credit for conducting research under the close guidance of a faculty mentor in their field. Please see below for guidelines and requirements for the academic year 2026-2027:

  • The program is open to students with sophomore standing and above (at least 45 completed units, including transfer and AP units) at the time the program begins.
  • Students must have a GPA of 2.7 or higher (students on the cusp of this threshold are encouraged to reach out to the FMP Coordinator to discuss eligibility).
  • Interested students are responsible for finding their own mentors. However, we offer guidance and resources, and if students are having problems finding a mentor, we encourage you to reach out to the FMP Coordinator.
  • The program is a two-quarter commitment, and students must be able to conduct research during both Winter and Spring Quarters.
  • All participating students are required to enroll in 4 units of Independent Study (99 or 199) for each quarter of the program. Students are responsible for enrolling themselves in 99/199; the Faculty Mentor Program does not enroll students in 99/199. Please see the FMP website for additional details, and contact the FMP Coordinator if you have any questions.
  • All participating students must present a poster at the Mentored Undergraduate Research and Applied Learning Symposium (MURALS) during Spring 2027.
  • Students must attend required program seminars and activities, and participate in workshops each quarter.
